The electric vehicle market grows bigger by the year, with auto makers working to create the best new models for all vehicle types from sedans to SUVs to pickups. Most experts agree that electric vehicles (EVs) are a greener option than their counterparts of the past, but EVs still have a few selling points to secure before going completely mainstream.
While older generations are still cautious to switch over to electric vehicles, a recent study found that four in five (82%) of younger drivers believe electric cars are the future and 72 percent between 18 and 40 would consider purchasing one. And with young adults finding electric SUVs more attractive as they move towards family life, its even more important that they choose the best one for not just them, but their young children too.
Respondents in the above mentioned survey admit that EVs have a higher bar to meet before they consider getting one. That higher bar includes features like a longer range (37%), the same affordability as a gas-powered vehicle (34%), and improved safety (30%). Other research suggests consumers aren’t solely focused on the “green” aspect either, with 55 percent choosing to buy an electric vehicle for reasons other than the environmental benefits.
“The good news for electric vehicles is that most countries are now pushing to clean up their electric grids,” The New York Times writes in a recent editorial on the subject. “In the United States, utilities have retired hundreds of coal plants over the last decade and shifted to a mix of lower-emissions natural gas, wind and solar power. As a result, researchers have found, electric vehicles have generally gotten cleaner, too. And they are likely to get cleaner still.”
With an infiltrated market full of in-demand electric vehicles, it’s understandable that consumers may feel inundated with the number of options – especially regarding something as important as investing in a new car. Kia EV6
The Kia EV6 is an industry favorite, well-loved for its sophisticated and sporty design, quick charging and all-wheel drive. “The Kia EV6 is one of the very best electric cars on sale today of any type: think of it as a budget alternative to the Jag i-Pace – the two share a similar monospace silhouette, roomy cabins and sharp drive,” Car Magazine writes.
Kia says its EV6 model can achieve up to 310 miles of EPA estimated range from a single charge, in addition to boasting several active safety features.

2. Tesla Model Y
Tesla is the name that comes to mind for most people when they think electric, and the brand’s SUV Model Y is a standout in the market with stylish interior features, a spacious front trunk and top-notch performance.
“Built on the same platform as the Model 3, the Model Y can fit up to seven passengers with an optional third-row seat. The Long Range option with AWD has a 318-mile range while the top-of-the-line AWD Performance edition uses dual motors and offers a lower range of 303 miles,” Forbes writes in its review.
The Model Y is highly-rated in the areas of performance, range, and practicality, in addition to offering one of most convenient and expansive charging options through the network of Tesla chargers worldwide.
“It’s not only quicker than its key rivals, it also has a longer driving range than the Audi e-tron and Jaguar I-Pace. This year the Tesla gets another bump to 330 miles, which is enough to fend off any range anxiety,” True Car notes.

Hyundai Kona Electric
The Hyundai Kona Electric is known for its excellent range and performance, standard features, acceleration, and 10-year-warranty.
“The Kona Electric is an impressive compact SUV, especially the 64kWh model which boasts a remarkable 300 miles of range, making it a genuinely usable electric car, not just as a day-to-day, but for longer journeys as well,” Driving Electric writes in its review.
The model is also well-liked for its practicality, including onboard entertainment and a comfortable ride.

Ford’s Mustang Mach-E
Ford’s Mustang Mach-E all-electric five-passenger is a great option for those looking for everyday driving range, satisfying performance, and cutting technology.
“Mach-E GT Performance Edition will sprint from 0-60 mph in approximately 3.5 seconds with a 1-foot rollout,” Make Use Of writes. “Obviously, the Performance Edition is lightning quick, which shouldn’t come as a surprise, with 480 hp and 634 lb-ft of torque at the ready. Many experts also consider the Mustang Mach-E a great value.
