Best OLED TVs for 2023: Top 5 Televisions Most Recommended By Expert Websites

Televisions have come a long way since the days of their debut in the 1930s. While finding a crystal-clear picture for your favorite shows and movies is relatively easy these days, organic light-emitting diodes (OLED) is the latest technology on the market that can make a huge difference in the way we consume content. OLED may be best known for high-end products like Apple, Samsung, and Google, whose screens use the technology, but it’s also gaining popularity in everyday televisions.

“OLED TVs naturally produce perfectly inky black levels, highly saturated colors, smooth motion, and superior viewing angles. In short, OLED TVs provide the best picture quality around,” The New York Times writes.

Only second to sleeping, Americans reportedly spend most of their time watching television, averaging about 3.1 hours per day. And while watching an excessive amount of television may lead to risks (just as many activities do), everything in moderation, right? Some research indicates that television in moderation may even be beneficial for us in surprising ways like settling down to sleep. Recent research indicates that catching up on your favorite sitcom or listening to some music before bedtime could ensure a better night’s sleep.

“If you are going to use media, like watching TV or listening to music, before bed, keep it a short, focused session and you are unlikely to experience any negative outcomes in your sleep that night,” researcher Dr. Ellithorpe said of the findings.

OLED displays are known for bright, clear, and color-dense images that are incomparable to anything else on the market. But which OLED TVs are best? If you’re only spending a limited amount of your precious free time watching shows, you may as well get the best quality possible – which is why we’re here to help. For our findings, we visited 10 of the leading expert websites to see which OLED TVs rated as the best. Our list is ranked based on the most-recommended high-tech TVs across these sites.

The List: Best OLED TVs, According To The Experts

1. Samsung S95B Series (~$1900)

Many consider the Samsung S95B Series the gold standard among OLED TVs. Quantum-dot color helps give the brightest, crisp picture money can buy (55 inch available here and 65 inch available here).

“The Samsung S95B uses a new type of OLED panel, called QD-OLED, that combines the perfect black levels, high contrast, and huge viewing angles of OLED technology with the vivid color saturation and high brightness of quantum dots,” The New York Times writes. “The result is the biggest leap forward in OLED TV performance we’ve seen in several years.”

The TV also comes with an Eco Remote Control which charges via solar/light rather than those pesky battery-powered remotes.

“This TV features over 8.3 million self-illuminating pixels and 4K upscaling for non-4K content. It also has a super-slim profile with minimal bezels and comes equipped with Dolby Atmos for great sound quality and even provides access to a gaming hub that can stream Xbox games without a console,” CNET writes.

2. Vizio OLED (~$950-$1,300)

While still at a high-price point, the Vizio OLED is a great pick if you’re looking for something on the more budget-friendly side in terms of OLED TVs (55 inch available here and 65 inch available here).

“The 55-inch model launched with a price of $1,299, but it’s regularly available below the $1,000 mark, while delivering all of the quality you expect from OLED,” Tom’s Guide writes. “Our testing found that the Vizio OLED delivers premium picture quality for hundreds of dollars less than the competition, and pairs it with great sound that has better-than-average bass.”

The smart TV is well-reviewed for an overall strong picture, high quality audio, and plenty of features for easy access.

“Just like Sony and LG’s OLEDs, Vizio’s model offers pixel-level contrast with true black levels. The display can’t get quite as bright as LG’s OLEDs, but it can get close with a max of around 700 nits,” Business Insider writes.

3. LG C2 (~$1,800)

The LG C2 OLED TV is a designer’s dream, with an ultralight, thin panel, incredible picture quality, and voice features.

“The self-lit OLED pixels provide infinite contrast and over 1 billion colors. It features a Filmmaker Mode for a theatrical experience and a Game Optimizer Mode to keep you in the action without lag. It also has a brightness booster to provide a brighter picture overall.” CNET writes.

The LG C1 was already a hit in the world of OLED televisions, but the company took it one step further with its improved features.

“Improvements for 2022 include the new Alpha a9 Gen 5 processor, which is designed to offer better object enhancement and dynamic tone mapping than its predecessor. As well as that, you’re getting ‘virtual surround sound,’ with the TV upscaling stereo content into 7.1.2-channel sound,” writes Tech Radar.

4. Sony A80J 65-Inch TV

The Sony Bravia A80J OLED TV makes the top of experts’ lists for its impressive picture, audio quality, and loads of smart features that make viewing your favorite films and shows a breeze.

“If you want impeccable quality and next-gen capabilities, we love the Sony Bravia XR A80J,” Tom’s Guide writes. “This 4K OLED is absolutely packed with futuristic technologies: HDR, a 120 Hz refresh rate, ATSC 3.0 tuner, Google TV streaming and Sony’s own Bravia Core service… the list goes on. Sure, not everyone will need everything here, but it’s nice to have the option.”

The television is also highly rated for its audio features, including Acoustic Surface Audio Plus and Dolby Atmos support.

“This TV has a Cognitive Processor XR that delivers intense contrasts and vibrant natural colors. It also supports Dolby Vision, Imax Enhanced and Netflix Adaptive Calibrated Mode to give you a cinematic experience at home,” CNET writes.

5. Sony Bravia XR A95K

Perhaps the actual cream of the crop in OLED TVs on the shelves today, it’s also one of the most expensive.

“When it comes to picture quality, motion clarity, and bells and whistles, there’s no TV that’s going to look and run better than the Sony A95K Series,” says Digital Trends.

Tech Radar calls the set a “masterpiece,” boasting some of the highest quality images of all OLED TVs they reviewed. “Not only is the picture a sight to behold, the Sony A95K makes a statement the second we lifted it out of its box. It has a unique design with a full-width metal plate stand that you can sit behind the TV for a minimal look or in front of it for an industrial one. The build quality here is excellent, leaving you in no doubt this is one hell of a premium TV,” their review says.

If you’re open to spending nearly $3,000 on an OLED set, this one is certainly the choice for you.

Comments

  1. This is the worst list of oleds I’ve ever seen.
DO NOT BUY. Sony A95k has repeatedly won’t top awards. The Vizio I can’t believe is even in here. Someone hasn’t done thier homework

  2. Yeah this list confuses me, is it the Sony or Samsung the best (sorted high to low?). Vision ranks as #2? More questions than answers here!

  3. Is there a TV that has BOTH , excellent Sound especially good for senior citizens , and exceedingly good / sharp picture quality?
Also providing an easy to use smart TV ,
For senior citizens , with the Above features ,
Perhaps good for people who are not so Computee Savy!
I don’t see this in your comments !!
Which make is top ranking for that??
    Thank you,
    Sharon.

  5. @Tator: I care. In spatial sound (140-150 W RMS) and picture (calibrated by Hollywood specialists and which, among other things, exceeds 1000 nits at the level of an OLED), the Panasonic GZ, HZ, JZ and LZ 2000 just about surpass them all (Sony, Philips, LG, Samsung etc.).

  6. While not the best, I picked up a LG A2 48″ that I am very happy with, for only $569 at BB black Fri sale and it blows away any sub $1000 LCD imho. Perfect for the bedroom. Now want a 65″ C2 for the living room.

  7. Sony A95K is a bad Tv and has picture that goes black and off air becomes 2 pictures! Have it for 2 months off issues and hoping Sony to refund. Wouldn’t replace tv and keep
Saying working on the on a fix and should just unplug and wait for it to reboot every time it happens. Yep that’s why I spent 3000.00 on a tv. Junk hoping for tomorrow to get my money back to buy and LG G2 to replace. Can’t believe from a Major company this is how they treat their customers. Escalated 4 levels of threw them have pictures and they no it’s in small batch of TV’s but leave you hanging though they would haves replaced it if only in small batch or at least give me a 5 year warranty.

  8. A80j is last years 2021 tv a80 k is 2022
A80j is better than this years.
Had A80j 77 abl was a pain, best is a90j
Returned a80j got a 85 a95j 2021 with a good panel. Im happy. No dammage or dimming image to worry about.
So far 1 year verry happy.
    This list is very strange.
