Bought Maytags back in ’87 they lasted 30 years but were told by every vendor that new ones are not as good. Bought Speed Queen commercial models and they’ve been flawless since. Not fancy. Just plain white workhorses.
Our Whirlpool washer bought brand new quit working with in 2 years. It got very little use by just one person. Unable to get it running again. I will never buy a Whirlpool now.
I I work on and sell appliances. I promise if you want something to last go with speedqueen. You’ll pay a few hundred more but I promise you it will save you money and the headaches of seeing and calling a repair guy so often. The next choice would be the LG. There machines aren’t a speed queen but they are the next best thing. I wouldn’t have a samsung fridge or washer dryer if you gave them to me. 7 out of 10 things I repair are samsung. Especially the fridge . The more fancy they get with the new tech, the quicker they will break. Most companies should be spending money on perfecting and building good quality machines. NOW days its about the looks and the options, but neither of those will get you value. Speedqueen last 20+years . The upfront cost of them seems pricey but compare that to buy 3 or 4 sets of other kinds and then do the math..
I have heard the same thing, thanks for the heads up.

As an appliance repair technician for 18 years, the wrong experts were asked. I wouldn’t buy any of them. The LG and Samsung I wouldn’t take for free. Electrolux and bosch are far superior front load washers (not that I would recommend a front load) and Speed Queen has been the best in laundry for a very long time. Not surprising that none of those were listed because box stores don’t carry them.
Why WASN’T Speed Queen mentioned?? Ours have been AWESOME AND PROBLEM FREE FOR at least 7 years! Top loading washer and great dryer. And Very true to the name, SPEED QUEEN AS they are fast and quiet! We will NEVER have a front loading washer. A real agitator makes the difference! And you find them at Mom and Pop Appliance stores like we did in BATAVIA OHIO!
This has to be wrong. Our brand New Maytag set is junk! We used it less than three months. After doing some research we purchased a speed queen front load washer and couldn’t be happier.
Bought a whirlpool front load washer and dryer. Delivered March 3, 2023. Nothing but junk. Washer sounded like it was going to fly apart when in the spin cycle.
The dryer took 2 hours and 10 minutes to dry a light load of clothes. It was equipped with an echo boost feature but I couldn’t use it. If I had it would have never dried my laundry. I did get my money back! I now have purchased a front load LG set. So far it has been great. Hopefully it will be a good choice.
My old set was a Maytag front load that I had for 14 years.
My Mayrag PetPro died exactly one month after it was delivered. It took 2 more months to get it fixed. I waited 2 hours and 2 minutes on the phone to set up repairs. Gentlemen asking about cost – at Lowe’s it was $1000. Maytag (actually Whirlpool) and Lowe’s are of NO help .
I’m a appliance repair tech. I own my own businesses specializing in repairing appliances. I can confirm that these are ALLLLLL garbage. Speed queen in the only way to go in the laundry room. Buy once, cry once. Don’t make the mistake of buying anything else
Every review of washing machines (and many other appliances too) concentrate way too much on bells and whistles and minute differences among brands which are immaterial. Virtually every washing machine, with the exception of one brand, Speed Queen, is made to last no longer than ten or twelve years. Speed Queen’s are made to last for 25 years.
Reviewers should concentrate on asking manufacturers how long their appliances last. The manufacturers (including electronics manufacturers) know because they test their own products. However most manufacturers keep results secret because their are no laws requiring estimated life to be revealed to consumers. Having such a law would be the single most important thing for consumers in determining which appliances to purchase. This is exactly why many people purchase Subarus, Hondas and Toyotas rather than Mercedes, Jeeps and Fords. In short, reliability should be first in any review, not bells and whistles.

Prices would have been helpful

And whirlpool now owns maytag.
Ms. Landry, you were borned to write about washers and dryers. And some do not believe in predestination.
