  1. Some of the clothes are not flattering on them. I would not nor should I wear pleather leggings.Clothes are supposed to flatter you,not have you stand out and be starred at.I find that classic dressing is always perfect.Funky is always fun if it doesn’t get carried away we all want to be in style and classic is never out of style.

    1. While I personally prefer clothes that flatter my own body, as that is what I’m comfortable with, I don’t agree with “clothes are supposed to flatter you”. I think it all comes down to personal preference and comfort. If you’re comfortable in something, wear it. It doesn’t mean others are going to like it, but others should not have a say on how another person wants to exist in the world. I hope you’re not wearing pleather leggings only because you don’t want to, not because you’re worried about someone else’s opinion — do what makes you happy, but don’t project your own level of comfort onto someone else.

  2. I love Torrid. With their rewards and near-constant sales, I have yet to pay full price for anything. The dresses are flattering. And the dresses and skirts almost always have functional pockets!

    1. I love Torrid too! Been shopping there since Day1! I haven’t even heard of some these companies. I don’t like online ordering either. If I can’t find the store in a mall or shopping strip to at least try it on, I’m not buying it. Where are some the listed stores located anyway?

  3. Thank you to the author for this great article. I am a fan of ASOS, and I am so excited to check out this other stores.

  4. If the fashions shown are a guide I would not even bother looking at any of the top 4. Maybe the 5th one but not flattering at all. Thank goodness these are American and not Australuan.

  5. I was hoping for Australian brands, there’s a lot out there now. Maybe you could write an article on them? I don’t want to pay crazy shipping prices, I’ll be buying local.

  6. I wish Dana Bachmann plus size was still being carried in Kohls and other department stores. It was a great fit and wonderful quality.
I haven’t found any other brand that I feel holds a candle to them

  8. Most of these clothes are hideous and do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for full figures. It’s insulting. Not only are these clothes unflattering, but they’re so high priced! I wouldn’t pay $1 for any of the clothes from 4 of these places. I wouldn’t even wear these clothes if they offered ME. Money to wear these clothes, because I actually love myself and enjoy looking at myself looking good.

I’ve been a bigger girl since kindergarten. 100 pounds, but I was also about 5 foot tall. Talk about experience in what looks good on plus size women!! That’d be me!

Do I wear what’s “in style?” Eh, I wear what looks good on me! Not those big ol potato sacks from the stores on this article! 😂 I’m not a tiny little size 16 either. I’m a size 26! Big ol stomach, but guess what? It’s not all up in people’s faces, yet I’m able to show some type of a flattering figure with the fabric clinging to right under my bust.

Then there’s the dresses that they made in our size that cling to our stomach. 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 What in the Single For Life are they trying to do to us?!? They’re convincing these girls that it looks good for it to look like they’re hiding a bunch of pool noodles around their waist?! Did I miss something? Is that sexy? Is that flattering? 😮‍💨

Then, they’ll have some actual kinda flattering clothes, but the colors are soooo full or inappropriately unflattering. The really sexy stuff is supposed to be RED! It’s like the people creating the clothes for plus size women read all of the studies about how red is a natural aphrodisiac decided that they’d use the color as little as possible with us, but when they would they’d use it on a garment that was going to make us look horrible no matter what.

I guarantee you this, if any of these places hired me to design plus size clothing, and they actually listened to me.. They didn’t just decide what I said was irrelevant, then I promise at least 90% of plus size women that been having a crap time getting noticed in a positive sexy way would, after wearing the clothes that I KNOW would look amazing on them.

Stop charging $200 for that hideous garbage. Jesus! Stevie Wonder could design better clothing for us than 95% of ALL of the plus size clothing stores that I’ve seen online, including the boutiques. 🥺The boutiques.. 😩 Why?!? Just, why? 🤢

  9. Look, if you want beautiful well made & cool looking plus sized clothes check out these brands instead (the only brand I back on this list is Asos): Anthropologie Plus is AMAZING (better than Dia & Co AND Universal Standard imo). Banana Republic goes up to XXL and their fit for many styles is roomy so a 24/26 could wear the XXL easily (they have beautifully made leather, cashmere & silk styles in Plus!!). Good American has THE BEST fitting plus size denim in modern cuts and Nordstrom and Macy’s offer fantasticly stylish Plus options as well!! I also wear a surprising amount of Free People clothing as well – they aren’t a plus size brand but their styles are soooo oversized I can wear many things (and I’m a US size 24/26). Gigi Pip has hats that go up to size 60 (for those of us w/ big heads) also Instagram has many many cool indie designers that cater to larger bodies!! Happy shopping guys!!

  11. This is some BULL. I been a big girl all my life baby, and these companies you have named are ok but are no where near top 5. Ashley Stewart should have been no.1. They have clothes for big women that have curves, booty and hips. Meanwhile most other companies cater to big chest big girls. Meaning certain shirts and dresses fit loosely in the breast and give you a saggy slouch look , meanwhile the hip and butt portion is tight or uncomfortably dis proportioned. If the hips fit then the top part of the dress is way too loose still. Im.46 with my experience, clothing lines like Torrid and Ashley give you that curve room and fits the small boob big girl. Fashion designers need to come to reality that all big girls dont have big breast or curvy bottoms and hips. Of all I’ve spent big money on my clothes and I’ve bought from all the following 5, they were ok, but neither company has designers that realize where the stretch needs to go and where the metering down should take place. Im long winded I know, but I’m tired of skinny people telling big people where to shop… Long story short if you got small boobs and big curves those 5 store wont have your back in most clothes. Torrid, Ashley Stewart, Avenue, Lane they gotcha and they been around long enough to know about a big gurl! Trust me! 💋💞

  12. Junonia is marketed as fitness wear for sizes up to 6X but their ‘softwik’ line is so comfortable that I wear it any time I leave the apartment. Stretchy enough for yoga, not binding at all, tops and pants in a variety of colors to mix and match. I love them, great sturdy quality. Junonia is not cheap, it is made in the USA and I could not afford much of it when I was younger.
A few years ago we got a bit of inheritance and I bought a couple dozen Junonia softwik pieces and it is all I wear now, I recommend them highly.

  13. Great article! I’ll be looking forward to more articles from you! Thank you Queen! -From a Thick Diva.

  14. I’m going to have to check these out and see if they are actually affordable. So many time for plus size it’s either cute or affordable – never both! I do find good deals at Torrid, BloomChic, and Old Navy though. I’m so surprised Torrid wasn’t on this list.
