A new study from researchers at the University of Vermont found that wild-fire prone areas are receiving an influx of new residents. This appears to be due to the lower cost of property values after a fire. This is concerning as previous studies indicate that many Americans remain unprepared for disasters such as wildfires.
The researchers created a dataset from 2010-2020 with data on temperature, weather, demographic variables, and socioeconomic factors. In reviewing California data, ABC News was able to see that top growth areas such as Alameda county were also those highly prone to wild-fires.
