Homestyle biscuits have been a beloved staple in the American diet, with their flaky, buttery goodness and ability to satisfy even the pickiest of taste buds. Whether enjoyed as a side to a hearty breakfast or as a standalone snack, these warm, pillowy delights have captured the hearts and stomachs of many. Some of the most satisfying biscuits are the ones you can get quickly on the go, which is why we will be exploring some of the best fast food biscuits that are sure to leave you craving for more. From classic favorites to innovative creations, get ready to embark on a mouthwatering journey through the world of these satisfying breakfast items.

Where you choose to indulge in a biscuit can vary by person, but what makes a good fast food biscuit, one may ask? Some qualities include:

  • Fluffy and flaky interior: The biscuit should be light and have a distinct layering, offering a delightful texture with every bite.
  • Crispy exterior: A slight golden-brown crust adds a satisfying crunch and enhances the flavor profile.
  • Buttery flavor: The biscuit should have a pronounced buttery taste, providing a rich and comforting base for any toppings.
  • Moist Factor: Despite its crisp exterior, the inside should be moist and tender, melting in your mouth with each chew.
  • Balanced sweetness: A subtle hint of sweetness complements the buttery flavor without being overpowering.
  • Fresh and warm: The biscuit should be served warm and fresh, ensuring a perfect balance of textures and flavors.
  • No greasy aftertaste: A good biscuit should leave you feeling satisfied, not greasy or heavy.
  • Reasonably priced: Fast food should offer value, so a good biscuit should be worth the price point.

Another point that makes a fast food biscuit appealing to most Americans, however, is the ability to buy one without leaving the comfort of their cars! Nearly half of Americans in a new poll would avoid going to a store that didn’t have a drive-thru option. The survey of 2,000 U.S. adults found that twice as many people prefer the drive-thru to actually entering a store on foot with a third of those who prefer drive-thrus claiming they will “always” choose that option when it’s available!

That being said, we at StudyFinds want to make sure your trips to the drive-thru are utterly delicious, which is why we have taken the time to research across multiple expert sources to bring you today’s ranking of the top seven best fast food biscuits! Don’t agree with our list or feel we missed out on a good suggestion? No worries! We would love to hear from you in the comments below.

The List: Best Fast Food Biscuits, According to Foodies

1. KFC

KFC biscuits are a beloved staple of the fast food chain’s menu. These warm, flaky treats have become iconic, known for their buttery flavor and tender texture. “A side item, these buttery treats are a nice compliment to KFC’s main offering, fried chicken,” says The Street.

“For me, KFC’s biscuit came out on top. It was warm, fluffy, and soft, with a good consistency and a delicious flavor. If you just want a plain biscuit, this one has you covered, but it also tastes great with honey or jelly if you have a sweet tooth,” writes Insider.

“Flaky is usually a negative term, but not in the biscuit world and not to the Colonel. The KFC rendition is often accepted as the best of the fast-food biscuits, and their game is tight. They’ve got a slightly irregular finish that gives a more homemade feel; they’re golden and flaky on the outside, with an interior that’s moist and crumbly,” adds My Recipes.

2. Popeye’s

Popeye’s biscuits are a beloved staple in Southern cuisine. These biscuits have become synonymous with comfort food and are often enjoyed alongside Popeye’s famous fried chicken. “Did you know that Popeye’s original name was actually Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits? This fast food chain, headquartered in Louisiana, might have dropped the extra words from its title, but the biscuits are a menu staple and a continued favorite among diners. Popeyes buttermilk biscuits deliver a soft and fluffy interior with a perfectly crisp exterior,” notes Eat This, Not That.

“Unlike many of its franchised brethren, the Popeye’s biscuit uses buttermilk, which adds a slightly different, saltier flavor than other standard butter (or ‘butter’) versions. It also has an enticing mix of textures: slightly crispy on the outside, with a soft, spongy inside. Throw on a dab of Popeye’s ‘sweet heat’ sauce for a little wake-up, and you’re good to go,” states My Recipes.

“This take may seem even hotter than a batch pulled fresh from the oven, but hear us out. Sure, Popeyes’ buttermilk biscuit can stand flake to flake with any of the wonders on this list, but that fact holds true only under ideal conditions: warm, drizzled with honey, and served with a large cup of the sweet cold liquid of your choice,” explains Level.

3. Bojangles

Bojangles biscuits are a beloved Southern delicacy that has captured the hearts and taste buds of many. With their perfectly flaky exterior and soft, buttery interior, these biscuits are truly a fast food masterpiece. “Bojangles serves a super-large, super-crumbly biscuit with some seriously crispy edges. This is a biscuit that your granny isn’t going to raise her nose at,” describes AL.

“These may be plain, but they’re not basic. The down-home-style biscuits — dipped and dabbed in the Charlotte-based chain’s savory gravy — will have you damn-near tap dancing for seconds,” raves Level.

“With restaurants concentrated all over the South, it’s no surprise to see Bojangles on this list of best fast food biscuits. The chain specializes specifically in Southern-style fried chicken and buttermilk biscuits, and it makes the bulk of its food from scratch each day. That includes its biscuits, which are exclusively made by the restaurant’s ‘Master Biscuit Makers’ and require a super in-depth process to ensure each flaky biscuit is nothing short of perfection,” reports Eat This, Not That.

4. Church’s Chicken

Church’s Chicken Honey Butter biscuits are a true delight for the taste buds. These delectable treats are a staple on the menu at Church’s Chicken, and for good reason. With its golden brown exterior and fluffy, buttery interior, these biscuits are a mouthwatering combination of sweet and savory flavors. “Calling biscuit lovers who have a bit of a sweet tooth, Church’s Chicken Honey Butter Biscuit takes a standard biscuit and gives it a sugary twist via a drizzle of gooey honey butter. The Honey-Butter Biscuit is sold a la carte and is also a side item in many of the restaurant’s combos,” says Eat This, Not That.

“Who knew Church’s biscuits were just big softies with tough exteriors? It was the most flavorful of the ones I tasted, and it had a sweetness that was hard to beat. For me, one of the best parts of the biscuit was that it already had honey drizzled on top, which gave the biscuit its distinct sweetness. The honey is added when the biscuits first come out of the pan, and the taste can’t be replicated with a honey packet,” states Insider.

“Nothing that involves honey, butter, or honey-butter is going to be bad, although the Church’s biscuit is not quite as tasty as one anticipates upon unwrapping. The honey-butter glaze on top adds crunch and sweetness and livens up what is otherwise a sturdy biscuit,” writes My Recipes.

5. Hardee’s

Hardee’s biscuits are a beloved staple of American fast food. With their fluffy texture, buttery flavor, and mouthwatering aroma, these biscuits have become a go-to breakfast option for many. “For more than 40 years, the chain has been serving fresh, made-from-scratch biscuits every morning. You don’t do something for that long and not get really, really good at it. Sure, they offer plenty of toppings to make it more filling, but that’s all just a bonus because when it comes to biscuits from Hardee’s, there’s nothing plain about ’em,” notes Southern Thing.

“The biscuit has the irregular shape and browned, crispy edges of something that wasn’t cooked and shipped en masse, as well as a buttery moistness. It’s a tasty biscuit and a nice change from your typical breakfast sandwich,” comments My Recipes.

“Hardee’s biscuits are made with high-quality ingredients and are baked fresh daily. They have a fluffy texture and a buttery flavor that pairs perfectly with the other ingredients in their sandwiches and breakfast items. Hardee’s also offers classic biscuits with toppings like sausage, bacon, egg, and cheese, as well as some unique combinations that you’re not going to find at other fast food restaurants,” adds Restaurant Clicks.

6. Chick-fil-A

Chick-fil-A biscuits are a beloved breakfast item that has gained a cult following among fast food enthusiasts. These warm and fluffy biscuits are the perfect start to any morning, offering a delicious combination of buttery goodness and a hint of sweetness. “This direct competitor to Bojangles serves up classic southern chicken biscuits,” describes The Street.

“Made with high-quality ingredients, including flour, milk, butter, and a secret blend of seasonings, these biscuits are freshly baked every day and served hot. Whether you prefer your biscuits plain or with toppings like chicken, bacon, or cheese, Chick-fil-A has a variety of options to satisfy your cravings. For breakfast, lunch, or dinner, Chick-fil-A’s biscuits are a must-try for anyone who loves comfort food with a Southern twist,” raves Restaurant Clicks.

“You might have noticed a running theme here: The fast food chains that specialize in southern comfort foods and fried chicken really know their way around a biscuit recipe. Enter Chick-fil-A‘s freshly baked buttered biscuit. It moonlights as a simple, humble menu item but promises mouthwatering delight thanks to a traditional buttermilk recipe that lends to a light golden finish and fluffy texture,” adds Eat This, Not That.

7. McDonald’s

McDonald’s biscuits are a breakfast staple that has been satisfying customers for years. These warm, flaky delights are a perfect combination of buttery goodness and melt-in-your-mouth texture. Whether enjoyed on their own or paired with a variety of toppings, McDonald’s biscuits offer a delicious start to the day that keeps customers coming back for more. “McDonald’s biscuits are crumbly and golden brown and delicious. Yeah, they’re not better than your grandma’s, but they get the job done,” states AL.

“If you’re looking for a big, fluffy biscuit, McDonald’s is the place to go. This biscuit cost me 89 cents, which was a great price. Of the five biscuits I tasted, McDonald’s also has the second largest, so if you’re looking for quantity as well as fluffiness, this may be the way to go,” reports Insider.

“McDonald’s may conjure visions of Big Macs and chicken McNuggets, but this iconic fast food chain is a champ when it comes to breakfast. Just ask the countless people who happily wait in line for their fix every morning. Part of the reason why their breakfast lands with so many is because of their soft and buttery biscuits. The biscuits are used in a handful of the chain’s breakfast sandwiches, and they’re also served as part of the breakfast platters,” concludes Eat This, Not That.

  1. This fast food restaurant is a favorite in North Carolina. It’s called Biscuitville and is found only in North Carolina. They make biscuits from scratch and have a big following. They have a varied breakfast menu and also serve lunch. They do not stay open for dinner. All their food is fresh and they are always busy. If you are ever in North Carolina…

  2. KFC? WOW! Totally disagree. Also note I was advised by a Bojangles Manager they no longer make biscuits from scratch. He said all biscuits are received frozen then thawed then oven cooked.
I agree with another comment here that Biscuitville makes a great biscuit.
I might add that a few stores here ” Country BBQ” has a “cathead” named for its size biscuit that would beat all the 10 listed with ease!
