Best Milk Frothers: Top 5 Brands Most Recommended For Foamy Drinks

Looking for a barista-style coffee without leaving home? Then a milk frother is a must-have kitchen gadget. The best milk frothers quickly aerates milk into a delicious bubbly foam– creating the perfect topping for your next latte or espresso.

For many of us, sipping a cup of coffee helps to get those creative juices flowing. In fact, scientists from the University of Iowa, are using that tasty latte foam as inspiration for a very interesting goal — beating cancerThe team’s research is breaking new ground by creating biocompatible materials that may figuratively spray cancer away. The new materials, called gas-entrapping materials (GeMs), come in the form of foams, solids, or hydrogels. Researchers specifically designed them to carry high concentrations of numerous therapeutic gasses directly into tissues, including tumors.

Scientists make foam GeMs using a whipping siphon, essentially the same device countless baristas use to make foams on hot chocolate and coffee drinks. However, the team reverse-engineered this one to accept various gases, including oxygen. The whipping siphons make use of safe, low-cost components common in many processed foods to construct the GeMs. By varying the quantity of each component, they were able to control the release of oxygen from the material.

These new findings suggest GeMs are capable of significantly increasing oxygen levels within solid tumors, thus rendering cancer cells more vulnerable to radiation or chemotherapy. More oxygen also appears to promote improved immune reactivity, the key to generating a response to immunotherapy.

The List: Best Milk Frothers, According to Experts

1. Instant Milk Frother

The brand behind the popular Instant Pot also makes an affordable milk frother that’s a reviewer favorite. It features four settings, including “cold foam, warm thick foam, warm light foam, and hot milk. Such versatility opens up more drink options—cold foam, in particular, is excellent for several iced coffee recipes—and the ability to customize drinks to your preference,” according to The Spruce Eats.

“This frother has various convenient features, such as a cool-touch exterior, overheat protection, and an auto-off. It also has a small and sleek design that will easily fit on any countertop,” adds Restaurant Clicks.

Tech Gear Lab notes, “this sleek milk frother runs through its’ various functions with almost no sound. It is also speedy, frothing in just 2 minutes. And with alternative milk, this frother produces microfoam worthy of pouring latte art.”

2. Breville Milk Cafe Electric Frother

Delish.com highlights this Breville frother’s “ability to control the exact temperature of your milk, which means you can also control just how foamy you want it to turn out.”

Serious Eats calls it ‘The Best Milk Frother Upgrade’, noting it’s for “discerning folks who can tell the difference between latte and cappuccino foam, who order their drinks extra hot, and who want complete control over their milk froth.”

“The latte frothing disk creates a smooth and silky milk froth while the cappuccino disk makes a thick and creamy froth. You can make hot chocolate for several people at a time by simply adding chocolate powder to the warming milk,” points out Food Network.

The frother’s stainless steel jug is dishwasher safe, making it easy to clean. Although one big drawback is the price. This one is expensive, so consider it an investment.

3. ElitaPro Double Whisk Ultra High Speed Milk Frother

This handheld milk frother featuring a double whisk. Food & Wine calls it ‘Best Overall,’ noting “the frother performs well with more than just coffee drinks. We also found that the double whisk does a great job of mixing hot chocolate, observing that it produced a nice 1.5 inches of froth.”

The Spruce Eats adds, “it frothed oat milk even better than whole milk, giving it small bubbles and a light, fluffy shape that held together well. That said, the whole milk was still really good, too.”

The gadget is made of stainless steel and includes an egg whisk for extra versatility. Plus, it comes in several different colors. “Look no further if you are searching for a handheld that can mix superfoods or whip up dry foam, this budget gadget does it all,” suggests Tech Gear Lab. This frother is a budget-friendly pick. Just keep in mind, it isn’t automatic and uses batteries.

4. Nespresso Aeroccino4 Milk Frother

Nespresso is known for making quality coffee machines. So, it’s no surprise the brand’s automatic milk frothers score high marks with reviewers. “It produced a silky, uniform froth with both whole milk and almond milk. It can be used to create hot or cold froth in about 90 seconds, and we found that the ‘less foam‘ setting generated the style and volume of foam for a latte (more milk, less foam), which is different from a cappuccino (more foam),” according to Good Housekeeping.

Reviewers appreciate the Aeroccino4’s handle, and additional froth options. That’s an upgrade from its predecessor, the Aeroccino3. “Along with creating delicious iced or hot drinks, the Aeroccino4 Milk Frother is also easy to use and clean,” notes Restaurant Clicks

Insider points out, “the cold-frothed milk setting works as well as it does with a manual frother, but without the sweat equity. The cappuccino setting arrives at a half-and-half combination of steamed and foamed milk, and the latte setting finishes up with about two-thirds milk and one-third foam, which is what Starbucks’ recipes call for.”

Two potential drawbacks? This frother isn’t dishwasher safe and comes in at a higher price point than some of its competitors.

5. Golde Superwhisk

Rounding out our list is a budget-friendly, USB-rechargeable milk frother. “The handle is a long cylinder, which provides a comfortable grip. And the metal parts — the thin pole that joins the handle to the whisk and the whisk itself — are exceptionally sturdy,” according to New York Magazine.

It features two speeds— fast and superfast. Plus, the whisk detaches for easy cleaning. “It quadrupled the volume of both whole and almond milk to produce a generous serving of froth,” adds Good Housekeeping.

Serious Eats suggests, it’s best for “people who travel, who don’t want to run out for batteries for their frother, who want a great frothing multitasker, who want to control the exact amount of froth for their drink, and who also have a microwave or don’t mind heating milk on a stovetop.”
